Mitsuhiro Hara 原光弘

Mitsuhiro Hara is a Japanese glass artist based in Osaka. In 1987, he joined The Glass Studio in Otaru, Hokkaido, where he studied under glass artist Chiyoji Asahara and developed his skills in traditional free-blown glass. In 1998, he returned to Osaka and established his own studio, Glass Art Yumeya, in Kishiwada. Since then, he has continued to create functional glassware shaped by close observation of the material itself.

Hara works mainly with clear glass and forms each piece by hand without relying on moulds. Rather than forcing molten glass into a perfectly controlled shape, he responds to the way it moves, stretches and settles at high temperatures. Slightly tilted outlines, gentle irregularities and occasional air bubbles are welcomed as natural parts of the process. These variations ensure that no two pieces are exactly alike.

Behind these spontaneous forms is careful attention to everyday use. Hara repeatedly considers the height, thickness, weight and grip of each vessel, as well as how easily it can be cleaned and handled. His work balances the freedom of handmade glass with the practical needs of daily life. Clear, uncomplicated and quietly playful, each piece retains the warmth of the maker' s hands while allowing the natural character of glass to remain visible. On a summer table, his vessels catch the changing light and make familiar moments feel fresh and gently animated.
