Katsukiya 香月舍

Artist AYA KATSUKI was born in Fukuoka Prefecture and graduated from Musashino Art University in 1989. In 1999, she moved to Okinawa and restarted her ceramic art under the name “Katsukiya,” a name that has become widely recognized. Last year, the Katsukiya studio celebrated its 25th anniversary.

Katsukiya’s works predominantly feature whimsical and lively animal figures. The animal handle series was initiated by AYA Katsuki during her university days. The vividly expressive and detailed kittens, rabbits, and little bears readily evoke the plush texture of their fur. She hopes that each of us can live alongside these delightfully fluffy and adorable creatures.

Every piece is unique, and many were created spontaneously, reflecting AYA Katsuki’s mood at the time. Moreover, through the craft of carving, each design is imbued with a distinctive three-dimensional quality. The fusion of random patterns with her unique personal style leaves a lasting impression on many.
