Kato Mikiko加藤美纪子

Kato Mikiko, a ceramic artist from Mizunami, Gifu Prefecture, combines the vitality of Jomon earthenware with the whimsical spirit of Hokkaido' s wooden bears in her pottery.

Her pieces, which include bear-shaped mugs and vases, feature an unglazed, primitive texture with playful details like dancing bears under flowing glazes.
Originally trained as a painter, Kato began her ceramic journey in 2020. During the pandemic, she sought to create art that brought warmth to the table, transforming it into a mini art museum.

Each piece is handmade, ensuring subtle variations that make every work unique.
Fascinated by kiln transformations and animal observations, Kato' s works reflect both the unpredictable power of fire and a love for nature, embodying her belief that "imperfection is evidence of life.
