Over the years, Takayama has held solo exhibitions at prestigious venues including Kyoto Takashimaya and Shinjuku INAX Galleria Ceramica in Tokyo. She has also participated in numerous group and special exhibitions across Japan and internationally.Takayama's work is currently featured in galleries and shops nationwide, focusing primarily on creating functional and beautiful tableware.
Ai Takayama's works are remarkable for their unique designs, intricate craftsmanship, and high level of technical skill. The themes often feature characters such as kings and elves from picture books, rendered in a style that is both charming and sophisticated. The creation process is highly complex: after shaping, the pieces are covered with multiple layers of clay and each texture is hand-pressed. Patterns are then etched with a needle and colors are inlaid (inlay technique) before the pieces are fired. The finished works bear the individual imprints of this meticulous handcrafting process.
