Kumiko Nakamura 星屑制作所

中村久美子(Kumiko Nakamura), currently residing in Fukuoka Prefecture, founded 星屑製作所 in 2017, where she creates hand-carved wooden dolls. She has held numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Japan and internationally. This exhibition marks her first showcase in North America.

The wooden dolls exude warmth with their gentle gazes and serene expressions, embodying all of life's joys and sorrows. Whether placed on a shelf or in the corner of a desk, they bring a sense of comfort. The delicate craftsmanship of each doll gives the impression that they have been carefully cherished. The shapes and curves of the figures evoke a deep sense of affection.

When we think of "Hoshikuzu" (stardust), it often evokes a sense of romantic wonder-those faintly flickering lights in the night sky. Although not as dazzling as bright stars, they softly illuminate the darkness with their gentle glow. These distant lights, like dreams, are light yet real, with a quiet presence that blends into the night, bringing a touch of serenity and solace to the soul. Together, these tiny lights form the poetic essence of the universe.

Memories are ever-shifting. It's only when we reflect on our lives that we realize each day is so ordinary, made up of countless small moments that together create the unique essence of each individual. As Kumiko Nakamura herself puts it:

"The greatest happiness lies in the continuation of those small moments of joy."
