Hirokazu Furutani 古谷浩一
- Born in 1979 in Shigaraki, Köka City, Shiga Prefecture, Japan
- Studied ceramics at:
- Shigaraki Ceramic Research Institute, Glaze Course (completed 2003)
- Kyoto Prefectural Pottery Technical College (graduated 2004)
- Began working at Furutani Pottery（古谷製陶所）which was establish by his father Nobuo Furutani in 1970 soon after graduation
Today, Hirokazu leads the pottery studio alongside a small team, every artwork are entirely handmade, and overseeing all processes from clay shaping to final firing.
The studio specializes in kohiki-style ware: red-iron clay coated with a white slip glaze (粉引き), creating soft, warm-toned tableware for everyday use. Pieces are designed to be warm, simple, and functional, reflecting natural materials and everyday comfort.
